The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Council approved a bylaw about liability insurance coverage.

The amended by-law requires that every member holding a certificate of registration “shall maintain professional liability protection to indemnify the member for all errors and omissions that may occur while practicing nursing in Ontario…The CNO has formally recognized that the professional liability protection can be provided through an employer’s insurance policy.”

That means you will continue to be covered by the ONA Liability Insurance Plan along with what your employer offers, and you will not be obligated to purchase additional liability insurance.

***WHY THIS ELECTION IS CRUCIAL***

A Message From Linda Silas | CFNU President

Why this federal election is crucial for nurses

October 21 is federal election day in Canada, and it’s a crucial moment for Canadians and so important for nurses.

Over the past months, I have been hearing the same things from members again and again. Nurses are facing overwhelming workloads, short-staffing, privatization and unacceptable violence. Across the country, there are threats of cutbacks to our health care that will only make things worse. Add to all this the stress of trying to care for our children or ageing relatives, and you get the picture.

As nurses we are doing the best we can, but it’s time to stop pretending our health care isn’t in desperate need of an upgrade. That’s why the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions has launched a national campaign, highlighting five issues we want to see tackled in the federal election:

  1. National public pharmacare
  2. Improving care for older Canadians
  3. Addressing workplace violence
  4. Serious investments in public health care
  5. National child care

October 21 is just around the corner. I encourage everyone to vote for a federal government that is committed to investing in care, not cuts.

Please take action now. Email your candidates and tell them you are voting for care.

TAKE ACTION

In solidarity always,

Linda

CFNU President
